Featuring words and music inspired by birds, including works by Ravel, Stanford, Gibbons, Messiaen and Elgar.
Inter Alios literally translates as 'among others', and speaks to the collective spirit of the choir. During the Cambridge term the choir alternately serve the ecumenical Chapel at Churchill where they sing a range of Christian services, and at Murray Edwards College where they have initiated a unique non-religious version of choral evensong under the title 'Humanist Happenings'. Typically these events feature a curated combination of music and poetry, and include a short address on a topic significant to our shared human experience. This last term the events have focused on the environment, and the impact of humans upon it. The programme in today’s concert reflects this, with music taken from several recent events.
This year the choir welcomed the new college Director of Music Ewan Campbell as their conductor. Ewan is a leading UK composer and a diverse musician, with interests ranging from classical orchestral and choral repertoire to jazz and contemporary music.
