We are thrilled to welcome the fabulous choir from Royal Holloway for the first of two performances in the 2017 Spring Series. Tonight they will perform Rachmaninov's epic Vespers, a remarkable work of almost symphonic proportions which transports listeners to a different world, that of the Russian Orthodox Church. With its legendary low bass writing and melodies based on traditional chant, and this performance is sure to be all the more atmospheric when sung by beautiful candlelight.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
The Choir of Royal Holloway is considered to be one of the finest mixed-voice collegiate choirs in Britain. Their recordings on the Hyperion label have attracted top reviews from all major music publications. Equally at home on the concert platform, the choir gives 50-plus concerts a year with a particular specialism in music from the late renaissance and contemporary music, especially from the Baltic states. The choir also benefits from a unique training programme in collaboration with The King's Singers - Royal Holloway's Ensemble in Residence.
The Brandenburg Choral Festival is always delighted to welcome this brilliant choir, led by Rupert Gough, Associate Music Director of the festival. They will return to the Spring Series in March to perform Arvo Pärt's "Passio" with Brandenburg Sinfonia. Another evening not to be missed!
