Timed for the bank holiday, this six-night adventure closer to home takes you to Scotland’s remote islands. Places often difficult to reach become wonderfully accessible by sea, with time on board enriched by views of Duart Castle guarding the Sound of Mull, the glassy waters of Loch Hourn, and the basalt columns of Fingal’s Cave. Ashore, history is uncovered at Jarlshof, revealing layers of island life across the centuries. Wildlife is never far away, either – from puffins and seals glimpsed on boat trips to seabirds sweeping overhead on coastal walks. Complete your experience with whisky tastings at Highland Park Distillery, a wander through Lews Castle’s grounds and time in Ullapool’s welcoming harbour.

Your musical director: Stephen Bullamore

Stephen Bullamore has a wealth of experience working with choirs both great and small. He is Musical Director of the Leicester Philharmonic Choir and of Bingham & District Choral Society; he previously was Musical Director of Barnet Choral Society and the North Herts Guild of Singers. Between these groups he has conducted much of the choral repertoire, including Bach’s major works, multiple Handel oratorios, Ethel Smyth’s monumental Mass in D and Elgar’s three concert length choral works, as well as championing concert works by living composers such as Bob Chilcott and Cecilia McDowall.

He is Director of Music (Master of the Song School) at St Mary Magdalene church, Newark. Here he oversees one of the last remaining Parish Church Choral Foundations, made possible by the bequest of Thomas Magnus in the 1530s. He previously held posts at Guildford and Lincoln Cathedrals and was Director of Music at Waltham Abbey for the best part of a decade.

He holds a doctorate in Editorial Musicology and has contributed to Grove Online. In recent years he has been drawn to crafting arrangements of pre-existing tunes to suit modern performance demands and has been published by RSCM. He has toured the world as an examiner for ABRSM. He was responsible for the musical arrangements for “101 pianos”, which turned out to be 130 players on 112 pianos! A former resident of the Isle of Lewis, he is a keen member of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and is looking forward to touring the area.
