Timothy Salter
Conductor

Two golden ages of English choral music are celebrated with music by Byrd and his contemporaries, alongside works from the later twentieth and the twenty-first centuries. Rarely-heard gems from the recent past include Howells’ Inheritance, Jonathan Harvey’s motet I love the Lord and Timothy Salter’s Miraculum Secundum, setting the account in St Mark’s gospel of the miracle of the Gadarene Swine. A programme of renewed and new musical acquaintance is completed with a new motet, Ave verum corpus written for The Ionian Singers by Nicholas Ansdell-Evans.

The Ionian Singers is a chamber choir of about 28 singers with a national and international reputation based on performances and recordings. The choir is known for its commitment to new music, has given many first performances and has commissioned new works from several British composers. The programming and recording policy of The Ionian Singers is to search out less familiar and unjustifiably neglected repertoire from the 16th century to the present.
