Cherubini Requiem in C minor; Haydn Little Organ Mass

  • St Katharine Cree 86 Leadenhall Street London EC3A 3BP United Kingdom (map)

Haydn's Little Organ mass is the most intimate of his 14 masses and features choir, soprano solo and chamber organ. Gounod's sublime Ave Maria (based around Bach's C major Prelude), dates from 1859. Laudate Dominum (Psalm 117), a swaying siciliano in 6/8 from the Solemn Vespers, is one of the loveliest melodies that Mozart ever wrote. Cherubini's first requiem, in C minor was greatly admired by Schumann, Brahms and above all Beethoven, who declared it to be the Requiem that he himself would have wished to write and at whose funeral it was performed. It is generally regarded as Cherubini's finest work.

Sine Nomine Singers are a small chamber choir of 20-25 singers founded 60 years ago, based in the London borough of Hillingdon. We enjoy a wide repertoire of secular and sacred music, which includes major choral works, madrigals, motets, part-songs and choral arrangements.
