ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Academix are a 5 piece contemporary a cappella band. They sing pop and jazz ranging from The Andrews Sisters in the 1930s, through doo-wop from the 1950s, Coldplay in the 1990s, to Taylor Swift today. Academix re-interprets songs you know and love, using their voices to produce the sound of drums, trumpets, violins, and electric guitars.
The contemporary a cappella movement began with The Swingle Singers in the 1960s, but really took off in the 1990s as university a cappella evolved into the success of TV shows like Glee and Gareth Malone's Naked Choir. Deke Sharon, the Musical Director of the Pitch Perfect films says of Academix: "Great set in every way. You really shine!"
Based in Surrey, Academix have become a popular favourite on the Brandenburg Fringe. An Academix performance features close harmony, beat-boxing, vocal looping, and of course fabulous shoes!
