Spem in alium by candlelight

  • St Martin-in-the-Fields Trafalgar Square London, WC2N 4JJ United Kingdom (map)
Reputedly written to celebrate the fortieth birthday of Queen Elizabeth in 1573, Tallis's spectacular motet weaves its lines across eight choirs of five voices each – passing the music from choir to choir, and building to climax of all forty voices singing together. We welcome Joseph Fort as he directs the Choir of King's College London in this choral tour de force.
