Elgar Lux Aeterna

  • St Stephen Walbrook 39 Walbrook London EC4N 8BN United Kingdom (map)

The ambience and gorgeous acoustic of St. Stephen Walbrook are complemented by Coro 94's choice of music in a pilgrimage through 600 years of choral music. Classic masterpieces like Elgar's Lux Aeterna, Purcell's Hear My Prayer and Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium stand alongside stunningly beautiful contemporary gems such as Allain's O Dayspring, Esenvald's Only In Sleep, and Kverno's Corpus Christi Carol.

A veritable palette of choral favourites! The choir will be joined in three pieces by the young, Slovak, international saxophonist Alžbeta Klasová. The juxtaposition of choir and saxophone is a very special and increasingly popular combination in contemporary music.

Coro 94 was formed by Michael Kibblewhite in 2014 from alumni of the award-winning Cantate Youth Choir. Many ex-members have developed careers in music and some have become well-known names including Sam Smith, SuRie, Tom Solomon, Anne-Marie Helder, and John Dalgleish (the actor). For others, singing in the UK's top amateur choirs forms a central part of their adult lives, with several belonging to the Bach Choir, BBC Symphony Chorus, London Philharmonic Chorus and City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus. Due to the country-wide spread of the membership, rehearsals take place monthly over one weekend. Based in Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, Coro 94 performs throughout East Anglia, and sings regularly in top London venues including an annual appearance in St Paul's Cathedral to lead the traditional Family Carols Service.
