Education Officer - Adam Mackenzie
Adam graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) in 2004 with First Class Honours. In that year he was the winner of the Friends of the Philharmonia Woodwind Prize from the Martin Music Scholarship, an achievement which resulted in a recital with the Soloists of the Philharmonia and a live broadcast on Radio 3’s In Tune. Adam recently contributed two CDs to the recording of the complete bassoon syllabus for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Adam is a passionate chamber musician and to date has performed with Ensemble 360˚, Endymion, New London Chamber Ensemble, and Ambache Ensemble. He is also the founder member of the Bozza Ensemble who have performed in the Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and the Linbury Theatre and who, in 2002, were winners of the Martin Music Scholarship Access and Outreach Award and the Tunnell Trust in 2009.
Following his return from a year at the Accademia della Scala, Milan, Adam embarked on what has become a highly successful freelance career. Adam plays regularly as principal bassoon with orchestras such as the Philharmonia, Brandenburg Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
He is fortunate to be able to combine this with his other musical passion, outreach and education work.
