We are delighted to welcome back the fantastic Minerva Consort and its conductor John Andrews for this candlelit late-night concert, the first of their two appearances in the 2017 Autumn Series. Allegri’s haunting Miserere, complete with stratospheric solo, is at the heart of this programme, which includes other gems of the a cappella repertoire. From the austere beauty of Tallis’s O Nata Lux and Palestrina’s Stabat Mater for double choir, through the poignant chromaticism of Gesualdo and intense spirituality of Victoria to the rich, expressive harmonies of Duruflé’s motets, The Minerva Consort will fill the darkness of St-Martin-in-the-Fields with the most beautiful, contemplative music spanning five centuries.
