Come & Sing: with Dan Ludford-Thomas

  • St Paul's Church Covent Garden Bedford St London, WC2E 9ED United Kingdom (map)

PLEASE NOTE: sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been postponed, and there will be no concert on Sunday.

Dan Ludford-Thomas takes us on a fun and relaxed choral adventure for community and office-based choirs. There’s no music to look at in advance - just turn up on the day, we’ll give you the words, and Dan will teach you the notes. By 7pm you’ll be confidently singing a selection of fun, upbeat songs - some familiar, some brand new to you. It’s a great chance to get away from the need for music, and simply enjoy the singing. What are you waiting for??

Dan is an established singing teacher and choral conductor based in London. He combines a busy schedule conducting professional choirs, choral societies and chambers choirs with his role as Head of Singing at Dulwich College and singing teaching post at Eton College. Dan has extensive experience in the development of young voices, regularly preparing young singers for solo roles at major Opera Houses, applications for choral awards at University and places at music conservatoires. He is the conductor of the Senior Choir of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain and enjoys a long association as a singing teacher on the Eton Choral Courses.

He's chosen a fantastic set of songs to work through on the day - gospel numbers, traditional African, and other World music - you can see the list below. And you don't need to bring any music - we'll have lyrics sheets for you to look at, and you'll learn everything by repetition.

This is a fantastic day for singers of every standard - beginners, who aren't sure whether singing is for you or not (it is!!); enthusiastic amateurs who can't read music; and seasoned professionals who can read - but for once you won't be allowed to rely on the dots!

Here's what you'll be learning:

  • Praise the Lord O my Soul
  • Welcome Table
  • Come and go with me
  • I just can't give up now
  • A keelie - trad. Ghanaian - 'Hey Makoley will you come out to play'
  • O ee O - trad Ghanaian wedding song - 'Come let us drink'
  • Maleezwe - trad. Zulu - 'My country, I need you'
  • All the earth is sacred - trad. American
  • Bell Mamma - trad. Aboriginal - 'Beautiful Mother Earth'
